Our Story — North of England Perfumery Heritage | Lab D.83

Born in the Lab. Rooted in the North.

Lab D.83 didn’t start with a business plan. It started with a question: why should a quality fragrance cost £200+? Why should scent be dictated by trends? And why should you have to choose between “men’s” and “women’s” when the best fragrances have never respected those boundaries?

We’re based in the North of England — a region with a perfumery heritage most people don’t know about. While Paris and New York get the spotlight, the North West of England has been at the heart of British fragrance for over two hundred years.

In the 1700s, cities like Chester and Manchester were already experimenting with locally grown flowers and herbs to create fragrances. By the 1800s, Liverpool’s booming port was importing exotic ingredients from around the world, and the Industrial Revolution gave the region the technology to produce fragrances at scale. Historic houses like Atkinson’s, established in 1799, became perfumers to royalty.

Lab D.83 continues this tradition — but on our own terms. We research and formulate every fragrance in-house, spending months refining each formula before it goes into production. We produce in small batches because quality matters more than quantity. And we keep our prices fair because we believe everyone deserves to smell exceptional.

Every bottle carries the name “Lab” because that’s where our scents are born — through experimentation, testing, and a relentless pursuit of getting it right. The “D.83” is personal to our founder.

Our fragrances are vegan, cruelty-free, and made entirely in the UK. They’re unisex because we believe the best scent for you is the one that smells best on your skin — not the one a marketing department decided you should wear.

This is fragrance with intent. Crafted in the Lab. Built to last.
